  • I saw three chamber ensembles from the Greenville (South Carolina) Symphony Orchestra.. fantastic! This show focused on woodwinds.  I loved the oboe especially.  One piece was by a contemporary composer by the name of Steven Winteregg, Divertimento for Bass, French Horn, and Flute.  It featured some really wonderful dissonant harmonies.

This trio played Beethoven's Opus 87.

    • Hi Stephanie!
That sounds like an amazing concert! Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • It was Robin, very exciting musically, especially when the woodwinds nailed the difficult triplet passages. I wish more young people were there!  And they had a nice catered spread in the lobby for all the guests!  I'll be at the winter and spring chamber shows too.

    • Hi Stephanie!
It sounds like quite an event they put on there. Have you ever been to Colonial Williamsburg? They have Chamber music in the Capital building and the Palace building and you really feel like you are back in that time. The settings they create are remarkable not to mention the beautiful music. If you haven't been there, you should definitely go at least once and experience it. It's breathtaking.

    • That sounds like fun Robin! My high school band played a festival in Williamsburg, and it was a great trip. That would have been 1991. I'd love to visit again!

    • Hi Stephanie!
You should definitely go there if you can. It's a whole different world they take you to especially if you go to see the concerts there in the evening. It's something you will never forget and have the memory for a lifetime.

  • I went to Idina Mendel recently. Such an amazing talent! Every age group was there. She moves you with her performance. Elderly men were weeping. Full of energy, funny and completely entertaining. See her if you get the chance.

    • Hi Paula!
Did you ever see the 2014 CMA awards where she sang Let It Go with Jennifer Nettles? It was so good! Look for it if you haven't seen it! I'm sure it's on YouTube. Thanks for sharing your concert experience. Robin
    • I will have to look for that clip. Thanks Robin

    • Hi Paula!
      This is the video. Enjoy!

"She missed the best part about meeting Robert - where you get to GEEK THE HELL OUT like a 15-yr old again. You think you won't, that you'll be cool, then -- BLAM!"

I had a wonderful time last weekend, two shows (Colubmia and Greenville) at lovely theaters in the front row for both. I think it is a very special time for Chicago right now. Jeff Coffey is everything we've heard, bringing fresh spirit to the tenor…
