Thanks a million!

All of you, who took the time to send good wishes and congrats for the Songwriter's Hall of Fame induction..... my most sincere thanks!

I know, by and large, the honor was bestowed based upon my earliest work.

Someday I hope to know that the entire body of work, particularly, that which was written 1990- present is included in any acknowledgment.

I'm very very grateful ...

2017 Songwriter's Hall of Fame Induction

The evening was particularly well attended, perhaps their largest turnout ever.

There was the Red Carpet at Schubert Alley (NYC). Cocktails and group photos of this year's inductees, was a hoot. Chatting with Babyface, Max Martin, Jimmy Jam.

The key to this event is that it's never filmed or recorded. It's just for the songwriter community.

I was very proud for Pankow. He had his moment and was great.

The band was made up of top NYC session guys, the singers I had worked with on my NYC solo albums.

A once in a lifetime deal.

In response to a statement or question posted last month, which I replied to, then took down, and then put back up again, only to have the whole deal disappear...:

"My 'reduced role' in the band began in the late 70's, when we were guilty of advanced partying, absorbing Kath's death, and Seraphine's attempt to become a songwriter/leader of the band. (Subsequently he invited Champlin to join up). Cetera decided to not be part of a horn band ... or any band.

By '81, I was busy getting myself back on track, re-kindling the need to compose. Meantime, the horn section wanted to spend more time downstage, craving attention over all else.

I remembered that I always wanted to be a composer. I didn't care to be the focus, didn't care about videos, or merchandising.

I soon began work on what would become "Life is Good in My Neighborhood". What I could no longer do in the context of the band, was now welcome freedom to a new path to discovery, fulfillment, and creativity.

But it's all been good. We are each only human.

IT'S A GROOVE, THIS LIFE

It’s a Groove, This Life (JVE ReMix)

The album, Subtlety & Passion (Blue Infinity Music) with the original version of this song … is my homage to Chicago. The band wasn’t feeling good about recording, so I just carried on with songs that could have easily been Chicago’s early 2000’s album. The lyric is about dear loved ones and acquaintances, some of  whom cause dismay … but life flows on.

IT’S GROOVE, THIS LIFE

Robert Lamm ©2001 BMG Gold Songs/Primary Wave Lamm ASCAP

I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A DREAMER

I HIT THE FLOOR A-RUNNING

BUT I DON'T FORGET TO PRAY

JOY JOY IS A COMER

SOON SHE'S GONNA HAPPEN

A THINKER WITH A LOT TO SAY

IT'S A GROOVE, THIS LIFE

MY DEAR FRIEND IS A DRINKER

TAN AND ALCOHOLIC

HIS BONES ARE BLEACHING IN THE SUN

MACKIE IS A SCHEMER

SAYS HE GOT SOME MUSIC

COULDN'T GET ARRESTED WITH A GUN

BUT IT'S A GROOVE THIS LIFE

IT'S A GROOVE

FRANKIE IS A DRIVER

PAST THE AGE OF REASON

USED TO BE A GREEN BERET

WHAT'S UP WITH THE SUMMER?

BOOM! AND THEN IT'S OVER

GO AHEAD AND MAKE MY DAY

BUT IT'S A GROOVE THIS LIFE

IT'S A GROOVE

I GET IMPATIENT WITH TOO MUCH TALK

LUCKY I CAN STILL WALK THE WALK

CAN'T BE RUNNIN' FROM THE DEVIL NOW

SO YOU TRY TO MAKE HIM INTO YOUR FRIEND

FASTER AND FASTER YOU PLAY

CLOSE AND CLOSER YOU GET TO THE DAY

SO CLOSE TO THE END

4 BELLS

4 Bells

It was 1980, a marriage had ended, I was living solo, but I had my Baldwin Concert Grand and I often defaulted to these chord changes when playing, very late at night. There was a clock that chimed the hours somewhere in the neighborhood. I had a sketch of the lyrics for years in a folder I keep of incomplete compositions.

Jump to NewYork City, late 2009, where I was feeling unsatisfied, unexcited, unfulfilled, and I knew I had to make a change with my

work, my career, my band. I felt this might be my last year of performing. Thus “ goodbye, goodbye, goodbye “.

4 BELLS ROBERT LAMM ©2011

FOUR BELLS CHIME SOFT IN A SILENT HOUSE

EMPTY, BUT FOR ONE BLUE BOY, JUST WAITING

FOUR BELLS CHIME SOFT, IT’S ALL BLUES TONIGHT

SOMETHING ENDS SOMETHING BEGINS, I’M WAITING

COLD EMPTY HEART

BUT I KNOW IT'S MY WORLD

TAKING THE TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

FOUR BELLS CHIME SOFT, NEVER YOUNG AGAIN

IN THE FURIOUS MOONLIGHT, I’M WAITING

COLD EMPTY HEART

BUT I KNOW IT'S MY WORLD

TAKING THE TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE

I THINK IT’S A BETTER TIME TO GO

GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE

DON’T KNOW WHEN I’LL SEE YOU AGAIN

GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE

SOMETHING LIKE I’VE GOT TO GO

GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE

REALLY TRYIN’ TO SAY GOODBYE

GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE, GOODBYE

BYE BYE BABY
